Teacher Profiles
Edward Lee
Guitar

Ed has always been inspired by music. At a very early age he owned a little AM radio and through it he was connected to many classic oldies. These ranged from folk tunes to the hard rockin’ of the 70’s.

When he finally saved up enough money, Ed bought his first guitar and immediately began learning how to play like the musicians he looked up to. Ed was so incredibly interested by the guitar that he devoted almost all of his time into studying it. He quickly developed a very strict routine and was able to learn a lot in a short amount of time. In his studies he discovered many pieces of music essential to the guitar. In no time his favourite band was Led Zeppelin and he made an effort to learn all their songs and how they worked. During this time he also taught himself how to play the blues.

Ed soon went to college to learn jazz. For 3 years, under the wing of guitar virtuosos Myron Makepeace and Pat Coleman, Ed became very drawn to jazz music. He was amazed by its intricacies, complexity and fullness and the possibilities it could offer by fusing it with rock compositions. He studied very hard to understand theory and its application to the guitar. Ed soon realized the importance of learning all styles of music which included folk, rock, jazz, country, blues, classical, metal and progressive music. In fact, Ed has been known as saying "diversity is one of the most important qualities of a good musician."

Ed has been in several bands and loves to just jam. He has taught many students and has been noted as being very patient, knowledgeable and motivating. Currently he is devoting most of his time to teaching. But when not teaching, Ed is constantly practicing guitar and working on original material.
